]]> Every summer Anafi hosts several cultural events and celebrations, while the festivities are honored by many visitors from the neighboring islands. In the middle of August a three-day sports event, called Yakithia, takes place in Chora and visitors can also enjoy traditional music, food, and wine. The most famous and popular feast of the island is held on September 7th-8th at the monastery of Panagia Kalamiotissa. The religious ritual starts at the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. The locals carry the icon of Virgin Mary (Panagia) to the old monastery of Panagia Kalamiotissa where an all-night ceremony takes place.

]]> With an extensive network of footpaths covering most of the island, Anafi is the ideal destination for hiking lovers and adventurous travelers. The most famous footpath is the route Chora – Roukounas – Megas Potamos – Zoodochos Pigi monastery. The route duration is around 2 hours and 30 minutes and the total length is 7,8 km. The footpath starts from the island’s Chora at the intersection between the road leading to the Monastery and the road leading to the port. This route, that crosses the southern part of the island, is mainly coastal and leads to several charming beaches, like Katsouni, Flamourou, Mikros Roukounas, and Megalos Roukounas, Katalimatsa, Megas Potamos, and Prasies. The ending of the route is Zoodochos Pigi monastery, where visitors can admire the remains of the ancient temple of Apollo. At this point, the route is connected with the path that leads to mount Kalamos, also known as the “Gibraltar of the Aegean”. Most of the footpath is paved with stones while in some parts it is interrupted by the motorway.
